Episode 14: Who's your doppelganger?

We talk celebrity lookalikes with special guest Matt Tinney, Caitlin plugs MCo Beauty, Zara talks tinted lenses and we ponder things people secretly hate at weddings and the worlds happiest jobs.

Hi friends!

The countdown to Xmas is well and truly on and we’re enjoying the festive spirit around town.

Our Peak of the week is the celebrity lookalike comps that have dominated the media the last few months (including the bizarre CEO Killer lookalike comp that popped up a few days ago - only in ‘Merica). It got us thinking about the celebrities we have been likened to over the years, both good and not so good and the source of much laughter over the years. We’ve both been told, together and separately, that we look like Adele circa 2015 (translation: pretty but slightly chubby).

Caitlin has also been told she looks like Denzel Washington (specifically her bone structure - we can see it!) and Catherine Zeta Jones (back when she had dark hair and was much thinner!). Caitlin’s mum has also told her that, like pet owners who look like their animals, she often looks like celebrities she’s been pictured with (her mum referenced the below pics with Tim Minchin and Nigella Lawson to make her case)

Zara has been likened, memorably, to Rose Hancock Porteous, Martine McCutcheon and Nigella Lawson.

We’ve got a few Plugs this week… the first is Matt Tinney Prints - the photography business by our work colleague and friend … you guessed it… Matt Tinney. Our fave is this beautiful dive shot, taken in Santa Cesarea Terme, Puglia, Italy. The perfect Xmas present for those hard to buy for people in your life!

Caitlin’s Plug for the week is MCoBeauty. She finally got to try these as her Woolies helpfully put a full display right near the checkout. I can confirm their best selling mascara, the Xtend Last Mascara has not smudged or flaked but doesn’t quite give the big lift that I like. Maybe I need to apply more layers? The Highlight & Glow Beauty Wand in Blush Glow gives a dewy, natural pink shimmer and I love the Peptide Lip Treatment in Berry. It feels a bit much at first but settles down and leaves the lips with a nice pink tint throughout the day.

Interestingly, according to their site, MCoBeauty is:

  • Australia’s fastest-growing beauty brand, offering a range of premium-quality, vegan & cruelty-free products at a luxe-for-less price

  • The #1 beauty brand in Woolworths and BIG W, and the fastest-growing beauty brand in Chemist Warehouse

  • The most-searched term on woolworths.com.au and bigw.com.au, more than milk, eggs and bread!

  • The best-selling mascara in Woolworths, with one XTENDLASH MASCARA sold every 25 seconds

Zara’s Plug for the week is the Liandra Swim x Pared Eyewear collaboration. Liandra is an eco-conscious and ethically minded resort and swim brand thats been making waves the last couple of years. The Creative Director and Founder, Liandra Gaykamangu, is a Yolngu woman from East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory and her prints are all 100% authentic to her First Nations roots.

Pared Eyewear is another great Aussie brand by Samantha Stevenson-Baker who has always had a knack for viewing things differently. Studying Design at UNSW in Sydney in the mid 2000's, followed by working in the eyewear design team at iconic Australian brand Ksubi in the late 2000's, combining experience with natural talent Sam was soon inspired to forge her own path and start Pared in 2012.

This collab features 6 x incredible styles that add just the right amount of POP to any look. The colours are so perfect and reflect Liandra’s amazing design sensibility, whilst the shapes are sturdy and designed to suit lots of face shapes, true to Pared’s vibe.

Zara can vouch for the quality and durability of Pared’s sunnies. She used to retail them many years ago at her boutique and this pair pictured below, the iconic “Big Mamma” style really helped kick off Zara’s love of a tinted lense… They’ve just left the Pared site after 10 years but you can still pick them up here.

Another Peak this week is the news that Rivals Season 2 is coming - Thats all we need to say. If you haven’t yet watched this banger of a show, well, you simply must. Its streaming now on Disney + so get on it and be up to date - its also great festive viewing in our opinion! We love this quote from Dame Jilly Cooper the author of the book and Executive Producer of the show; "I'm orgasmic with excitement and cannot wait for the return of my superhero, Rupert Campbell-Black, and the rest of the characters in season two."

We Pondered “The things your wedding guests secretly despise” as listed in this story by our faves at The Cut.

A post shared by @thecut

The things people (not so secretly as it turns out) despise include;

  • Paper only invitations

  • Shuttle rides of over 15 minutes to see in celebrations

  • Children on the dancefloor

  • Too many events around one wedding - The recovery brunch was a big no no.

  • Predictable playlists - they even specifically call out The Killers smash hit “Mr Brightside”

We’d love to know what your wedding pet hates are, let us know in the comments or via DM - we’re so nosy, we desperately want to know!

We’re also Pondering the world’s ten happiest jobs as reported here. They say, the happiest jobs are those that make people feel fulfilled and content with their work. This can vary depending on roles, industry, salaries, environment, job security, skill sets and the interest of individuals.

What struck us is that we can lay claim to several of the jobs listed including Event Planner, Fashion Designer (Zara), Freelance Writer, Social Media Manager and Consultant. As well as the unpaid work at home of early child educator, executive chef and interior designer haha. Does your job make you happy? Do you agree with their list?

Hoping the festivities of December have already started for you!
